John Ensley is a Chartered Financial Consultant® and financial advisor who has been helping individuals and families make sound financial decisions since 2012. Since 2015, a significant focus of his practice has been college planning and funding—helping families navigate one of the largest and most consequential financial decisions they will encounter.
John brings a unique perspective to college planning through his earlier career in the student loan industry. He served as a divisional manager for one of the nation’s largest government contractors, working on contracts with the U.S. Department of Education and multiple state guaranty agencies. In that role, John oversaw recovery operations for a portfolio of more than $250 million in defaulted federal student loans. That experience gave him an up-close understanding of the long-term consequences that poorly planned college financing can have on students and families.
Today, John is passionate about helping families find the right-fit college for their children while developing smart, coordinated strategies to pay for it. His philosophy is straightforward: families should understand all of their options, avoid unnecessarily overpaying for college, and—most importantly—not sacrifice their own retirement security in the process.
Aside from his professional life, John lives in Washington State’s Puget Sound region with his wife, Amber, and their tiny little dog, Mazie. He is a dad, a grandpa, a U.S. Army veteran, and avid sailing enthusiast.
